About Katharine
Full of enthusiastic nerdery, Katharine’s workouts are as fun as they are challenging. Methodically layering your new skills, she’ll encourage you further than you think you’re capable of going, with a smile and a laugh (and quite possibly a pertinent quote… could be Mr Pilates but might be Yoda).
Classically-trained as a dancer, performing across the UK and Europe, she’s firmly rooted in the fields of both movement and education. Katharine earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Dance and Movement Studies, with further training in Teaching Adult Learners. She certified to teach Pilates in 2006. After teaching in Dance departments at degree and postgraduate level, including 8 years at Trinity Laban (Europe’s largest conservatoire for music and dance), where she also taught in the in-house Pilates Studio, she moved with her family to Devon in 2012.
Katharine’s own Pilates practice supports all sorts of muddy activities. For her that ranges from a new found love of trail running (quite a departure from the ballet-barre), to hefting around buckets of goodness-knows-what on her family’s smallholding. She’ll deny it, but Katharine has a rather competitive spirit... don’t ever challenge her to a game of Twister!
“Katharine combines a light touch and sense of humour with insistence on getting it right.”
“A great energetic workout using a mix of apparatus. Remains very focused on the individual’s practice whilst everyone’s working at their own level. I love it!”
Teaching Qualifications and Development
Since initially training to teach the Pilates Method, Katharine has 19 years of Pilates teaching experience and continuing education:
Certified by the Pilates Foundation to teach Pilates Mat in 2006 (450 hours)
Bridge to Full Certification by the Pilates Foundation on all Apparatus in 2009 (650 hours)
Since 2015, Katharine has particularly sought out trainers with a Classical focus to further her own teaching journey
In 2025, Katharine embarks on a further post-qualification study journey with her mentor Shari Berkowitz of The Vertical Workshop, incorporating intensive study of the original Pilates Method as handed down from Joseph Pilates, through a lens of current bio-mechanical research and a finely honed teaching methodology.
“I always feel so safe under Katharine’s supervision.”
